Somerset Art Weeks Festival 2019
Saturday , September 21st , 2019 — Sunday , October 06th , 2019
This year, artists across Somerset celebrated 25 years of Somerset Art Weeks. The annual county-wide celebration saw 135 venues taking part, which is over 200 artists exhibiting work over 16 days! This year promised to be a special celebration and Clayhill Arts was very proud to be involved. We supported the Artist Development Programme this year and hosted two emerging artists, Emma Housley and Megan Wakelam who received a Creative Pathway’s Bursary. Both artists have been resident in our new workshop and have been developing work for the festival.
Longstanding SAW member, painter/printmaker Pennie Elfick is also exhibiting with us, after receiving a Development Bursary earlier this year which has enabled her to experiment with sculpture. Examples of these sculptures and installations which have responded to the site were found in the grounds of Clayhill during the Festival, alongside some of her new paintings.
To complement the Festival exhibition, we had an In Conversation Evening on Friday 27th September with all of the resident artists as well as being joined by AIP Welding Supplies for a day of live welding demonstrations on Friday 4th October.
Can’t believe it’s the last day of #somersetartweeks today. Where will you visit? 😊 We headed to @ClayhillArts on Friday & it was awesome. Loved exploring the beautifully restored venue & it was great to see the work of @lopie48 @EmmaHousleyArt & @meganwakelamart #somersetcool pic.twitter.com/eiKGoXgxLf
